William Daley

Personal Statement:

  • A true defense attorney sees himself at Knight defending the individual against the awesome power of the state. This is particularly true in the area of sex crimes. Reasonable doubt tends to shrink to the size of a pea. Prosecutors in this area frequently loose the ability to look at a case objectively. It is not enough to be innocent if you hope to win a case; you must have the power and resources behind you to match the prosecutor’s zeal for convictions. My most savored victories have been those where jurors were able to overcome the emotional impact of the charges, and return true and just verdicts.

Area of Practice:

  • After thirty plus years of actively representing defendants, I have decided to move to the business side of the Innocence Legal Team. I will be working full time as the Chief Operations Officer during 2010. I will not be taking new cases during this time.

Bar Admissions:

  • California State Bar, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, United States District Court for the Northern District of California, 1972.
